1:46 am - World Under-18's

lost__emotions
Thought I'd post about the World Under-18 Championships and keep everyone up to speed how Team Canada's doing =)

The team roster is located HERE.

They've played two exhibition games vs Sweden and Germany, tying 2-2 and winning 8-1 respectively.

Ty Wishart [Prince George, WHL] was named captain, whereas Jamie McGinn [Ottawa, OHL] and Ben Maxwell [Kootenay, WHL] were named alternate captains.

Their first round robin game is April 12th vs Slovakia =)

And from last week:
Junior RosterCollapse )</lj-cut text="> Don't know too much about the non-OHL guys, but hopefully they will all play well together! They are young though, but on the bright side that will probably be good for next year. Oh and Chipchura was named Captain and Bolland, Barker, Bourdon and Comeau got the A's. I can't wait for the 26th!

So Team Canada has announced the candidates for the 2006 Canadian Olympic hockey team playing in Torino this winter.

Well, I don't know which one is correct... but I assume that Hockey Canada's is the right one.

37 Man Roster:
TSN - http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?fid=8747&hubname=

81 Man Roster:
Hockey Canada - http://www.hockeycanada.ca/e/news/2005/nr136.html
Sportsnet - http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/shownews.jsp?content=h101927A

76 Man Roster:
Ottawa Citizen (sorry, no link)
"EDMONTON - Wayne Gretzky didn't name 99 candidates for the 2006 Canadian Olympic hockey team, but Team Canada's executive director will announce a catch-all list of 76 hopefuls today.

Gretzky and his support staff -- Edmonton Oilers general manager Kevin Lowe, Vancouver Canucks assistant general manager Steve Tambelli and world championship coach Marc Habscheid -- tried to cover all bases with the admittedly unwieldy 76-man list because no new players can be added after the Oct. 24 deadline.

"We'll have nine goalies, 21 defencemen and 46 forwards ... basically every and any breathing Canadian," joked Gretzky, who knows Martin Brodeur is his No. 1 in net, with Roberto Luongo his likely backup, but he wanted a large list in case any of his top four players (Marty Turco and Jose Theodore) gets hurt.

The preliminary list has to be down to 23 by Dec. 22. ...

jeterbliss FINAL SCORE:

CZECH: 3
CANADA: 0

Oh, it kills you. :P

I think that we did have the talent, the only thing we were missing was the inspiration. I mean, it's not like they were playing it in Canada...if they were, they'd have done as well as they could have, not as well as they wanted to. *shrugs*

I was watching the U18 Men Hockey Championship today, and I'm pretty disappointed that Team USA won the gold. ): One of the things that was just hard to watch was the last goal for the Americans. That was just aweful. ): I'm proud of Team Canada though. They did their best. And the silver medal isn't all that bad. Gold would have been awesome though.

Btw, i'm new to this community. Hi

TEAM CANADA WORLD JUNIOR ‘eBay Canada’ AUCTION TO BENEFIT CANADIAN HOCKEY FOUNDATION AND SOUTH ASIAN RELIEF EFFORTS

GRAND FORKS, ND – Team Canada game worn hockey jerseys, gloves and helmets from the 2005 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, as well as other Team Canada items, are now up for bid on eBay Canada and www.hockeycanada.ca, with proceeds from the auction going to both the Canadian Hockey Foundation and south Asian relief efforts, Hockey Canada announced on Sunday.

Over $40,000 was raised from a similar auction by Hockey Canada from last year’s World Junior Championship.

"Our hearts go out to all those who have been impacted by the disaster in south Asia," said Allan Matthews, Chair of the Board for Hockey Canada. “We are glad to assist in these relief efforts through this auction.”

Here's the link.

What the jerseys are going for:
as of 10am on Jan 7thCollapse )

Bidding ends Jan 8th.

Canada wins 6-1 over the Russians

Quote of the night:
· "They go down like free beer at a frat party." – Pierre McGuire

Some others:
· "It’s a double-Dion" – Pierre McGuire (after 4th goal by Bergeron)
· Is Kabam Pierre's new word for Whamo?? :D
· I came to realize that Pierre McGuire REALLY hates the Russians, but that's probably stating the obvious by now
· Fan's sign: PMS = Pierre McGuire Syndrome
· "Danny Syvret wanted to get himself a Dion"

Some more quick notes on the actual game:
- Jeff Carter ties Lindros' record for most goals by a Cdn in the WJC with 12 goals (and in only 12 games)
- It was a weak 3rd goal which lead to Anton Khudobin being pulled and replaced by Andrei Kuznetsov
- Team Canada all over Ovechkin physically and verbally
- Ovechkin eventually leaves game with a shoulder injury
- Vorobiev was kicked out of game after cross-checking Nigel Dawes in the face ... who received multiple slashes right before that call. Vorobiev recieved a 5 minute major and a game misconduct

I'm sure others will have more to come.
